Pagewise Terms of Use
Please read these terms carefully. They include important limits on our responsibility (sections 9 to 11), your promise to cover claims caused by your own misuse (section 12), and how disputes are handled (section 15). Nothing in these terms removes rights that the consumer law of your country gives you and that cannot be waived.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
Pagewise is a PDF reader and editor for Android, published by Lecaai, an individual developer based in India ("Lecaai", "we", "us"). These terms are a binding agreement between you and us about Pagewise, the optional Pagewise Pro purchase, this website and any support we give ("the Service"). By installing, opening or using Pagewise you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not accept them, do not use Pagewise and uninstall it.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Pagewise. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use Pagewise only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms for you. Purchases must be made by, or with the permission of, someone who can legally make them.
2. Your licence
We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable licence to install and use Pagewise on devices you own or control, for your own personal or internal business purposes, in line with these terms and the Google Play Terms of Service. Pagewise is licensed to you, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights not expressly given to you, including all rights in the Pagewise name, logo, design and code.
You must not, and must not help anyone else to:
- copy, sell, rent, lend, sublicense or redistribute Pagewise, or offer it as a service to others;
- remove, bypass, disable or interfere with the Pro purchase, licence checks or any security feature, or use Pro without having bought it;
- reverse engineer, decompile or modify Pagewise, except where the law or an open-source licence that applies to a component expressly allows it;
- remove or change any copyright, trademark or licence notice;
- use Pagewise to break any law or any other person's rights, or in any way that could harm Pagewise, us or others.
3. Open-source software
Pagewise includes open-source software, fonts and text-recognition models, each provided under its own licence and listed in the app under Settings → About → Open-source notices. For those components, their licences apply, and nothing in these terms limits the rights those licences give you. All other parts of Pagewise are licensed only under these terms.
4. Free features and Pagewise Pro
Pagewise is free to download and use for reading, searching, comments and drawing, filling in forms, signing with a drawn or typed signature, printing and sharing. Pagewise Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase made through Google Play. It unlocks the Pro tools shown in the app at the time of purchase. It is not a subscription and is never charged again.
- Payment. Google Play takes the payment, applies taxes and prices in your currency, and handles refunds under its own policies. We do not receive or store your payment details.
- Refunds. Refund requests are handled by Google Play. Where the law gives you a right to a refund, you can use it. Otherwise purchases are final. If a purchase is refunded, reversed or charged back, Pro is locked again.
- Restoring. Your purchase is tied to the Google account you bought it with. You can restore it on your Android devices from Settings → Restore purchase.
- What Pro includes. Pro covers the Pro tools in the Pagewise Android app. We may improve, add or change tools over time. We will not remove the core Pro tools you bought without a good reason, such as a legal, security or third-party requirement. Separate products or online services that we may offer in the future, such as other apps or services that need a server, may come with their own terms and prices, which we will show before you use or buy them.
- Personal licence. Pro is licensed to you personally. A business that needs Pro for several people must buy it for each person.
5. Your documents and your responsibility
Your documents are yours. Pagewise works on your device, and we never receive your documents (see the Privacy Policy). You alone are responsible for:
- the documents you open, create, change, sign, share or print with Pagewise, and for having every right and permission needed to do so;
- checking every result before you rely on it, sign it, file it or send it to anyone;
- keeping backups. Documents in Pagewise are stored only on your device. Uninstalling Pagewise, clearing its data, or losing or resetting your device deletes them, and we cannot recover them.
You must not use Pagewise to forge, falsify or alter any document in order to deceive anyone; to create or change official, legal, financial, identity or academic documents without authority; to infringe copyright or other rights; or to process content that is illegal where you are. You are fully responsible for how you use Pagewise and for what you do with its results.
6. Important notes about specific tools
- Editing and converting. PDF files vary widely. Edited, converted, compressed, combined or recognised (OCR) results may differ from the original in layout, fonts, colours, quality or content. Always check them.
- Text recognition (OCR). Recognised text can contain mistakes. Do not rely on it without checking.
- Redaction. Pagewise removes redacted content and checks the result, but you must review every redacted document before sharing it. We are not responsible for information that was not marked, was missed, or remains in a copy you shared earlier.
- Signatures. A signature made with Pagewise is a simple electronic signature. It is not a certified, qualified or government-recognised digital signature, such as a qualified signature under EU eIDAS or an electronic signature under India's Information Technology Act made with an approved method. Whether a signature is valid or enough for a document depends on the law and on the people involved. Some documents legally require other methods. Deciding that is your responsibility.
- Passwords. If you protect a document and forget its password, neither we nor anyone else can recover it. Removing a password is only for documents you are entitled to open.
- Printing and sharing. These use Android's print system, your printer and the apps you choose, which we do not control.
Pagewise is a software tool. Nothing in it or from us is legal, financial, tax or other professional advice.
7. Third-party services
Pagewise relies on services we do not control, including Android, Google Play, the apps you share files with, and printers. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to them. We are not responsible for them, for their availability, or for what happens to files once you send them to another app or service.
8. Updates, changes and availability
We may update, change, suspend or stop Pagewise or any feature at any time, for example to fix problems, improve it, or meet legal, security or Google Play requirements. Updates may be needed to keep using Pagewise. We do not promise that Pagewise will be available on every device or Android version, or forever.
9. No warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Pagewise and the Service are provided "as is" and "as available", with all faults and without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory. That includes warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, and that Pagewise will be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or compatible with every file or device. You use Pagewise at your own risk.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lecaai and its owner, contributors and licensors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, documents, profits, revenue, business, goodwill or opportunity. This includes losses from relying on an edited, converted, recognised, redacted or signed document, arising from or related to Pagewise or these terms. It applies whatever the legal theory, even if we were told such loss was possible.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims arising from or related to Pagewise or these terms is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid for Pagewise Pro in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) one thousand Indian rupees (₹1,000).
Some countries do not allow certain exclusions or limits. In those countries, these limits apply only as far as the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Claims must be made within one year
To the extent the law allows, any claim arising from or related to Pagewise or these terms must be brought within one year after it arose. Otherwise it is permanently barred.
12. Your promise to cover us
To the extent the law allows, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Lecaai and its owner and contributors from any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: your documents, your misuse of Pagewise, your breach of these terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any other person.
13. Ending these terms
You can stop using Pagewise at any time by uninstalling it. Your licence ends automatically if you break these terms, and we may end or suspend it if we reasonably believe you have done so. When it ends, you must stop using Pagewise. Sections 5 to 7 and 9 to 17 continue to apply after these terms end.
14. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We will publish the new version at this address with a new effective date, and for important changes we will also tell you in the app or on this site. If you keep using Pagewise after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you do not agree, stop using Pagewise.
15. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you have a complaint, please first write to mail@lecaai.com and give us 30 days to try to solve it informally. If it is not solved, the courts in India with jurisdiction over Lecaai's principal place of business have exclusive jurisdiction, unless the consumer law of the country where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts. To the extent the law allows, claims may be brought only on an individual basis, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative action.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another country with mandatory consumer protections, you keep those protections, and nothing in these terms limits them.
16. General
- Whole agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Pagewise. They replace any earlier agreement.
- Severability. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, it is changed only as much as needed to make it enforceable, and the rest stays in effect.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a right, that does not mean we give it up.
- Assignment. You may not transfer these terms or your Pro licence. We may transfer them, for example to a company that takes over Pagewise, without reducing your rights.
- Events beyond control. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
- Sanctions and export. You may not use Pagewise where, or if you are a person to whom, applicable sanctions or export laws forbid it.
- Language. These terms are written in English. Any translation is for convenience, and the English version applies.
